Poppies in Watercolour.

After such an enjoyable time working outdoors a short time ago, I booked some annual leave in the hope of getting some momentum going, so brimming with enthusiasm was I.
My efforts would have been better invested in designing and building an ark, such was the deluge that followed. I can honestly say that the rain was heavy and un-ceasing from the moment my leave started, till the day it was time to return to work at which point, the sun peeped out from the now fluffy and desicated clouds, and rendered the sky a glorious blue.
To add to the folly of my week, I happened, unwittingly, to book my time off to coincide with the kid's half term hols.
And then our fence fell down.
And then.......
Well, you get the picture.
Here then, is the result of five days off work in order, initially, to concentrate on producing a number of paintings but ultimately, to ferry about a step daughter around who is intent on shopping........ Everywhere!
This is a familiar format but much loved. I've sold more of these than anything else, some even before they have dried!!!

  1. Sounds like the same weather we had here too. I can see why this format sells so well. Your first impression when you see it is WOW. I like how you treat the background so it reads as a big field and then the enjoyment of the flowers themselves. Nice job Kev.

    1. Thanks Pat. It's easy to think that it's only in the U.K. that we suffer this sort of weather. Sorry you've had it too.
As for this format, though it is popular, I really would like to loosen it up a bit but that doesn't come easy for me!

  2. I'm sorry the weather didn't cooperate for your vacation, but you created something gorgeous in that time period. Your flowers seem to be really dancing in the wind...or blowing in the rain. Glad you made good use of your time.

  3. This was not exactly what one expects for vacation. Oh I understand this so well! And I think expectations are sometimes really challenging. It's great that you found a different way to enjoy your days off from work although the outcome with the fence was unexpected as well! I love your flowers and I also can understand very well that they are bestsellers even before they have dried. Have a good start into the coming week! My husband and me will leave for Schottland on Tuesday! I am so excited. Good luck for the repair of the fence!

  5. Hello Kev,
This is a gorgeous painting. I love the colors, and you must had had enough patience to paint those small flowers. The blue flowers are fantastic. Sorry to hear that the weather did not cooperate when you had your leave period. But you made good of your time anyway.

  6. Beautiful job on the poppies and adding the blue flowers was perfect. Another painting which would make a gorgeous card.
The softness of your background is really lovely, Kev.

    1. Thanks Julie. The background is the enjoyable bit with these, lots of water and splashing around!!
What I need to do is to bring this looseness forward, into the poppies themselves.
