Poppies 1.2.3.

I haven't been well again, hence the rather low level of activity on here, it's either crippling pain or thought-stopping morphine. I've now mentioned this twice on what is supposed to be an art blog, not a health blog, so I promise not to labour the point again. These three are the result of a completely sleepless night when, for want of anything better to do, I squeezed some colours onto a palette with a view to doing some unambitious doodling. They are only about 5"x 7" and are purely from my imagination - no photographs or any references from books etc. I set out with one piece in mind and before I knew it, I was completing the third one, what a strange thing this hobby is!!! Watercolour on Langton 140lb Rough.

  1. Hi Kev, I'm so sorry to hear that you haven't been well recently. However you did a wonderful job during your sleepless night. And I really wonder how you succeeded so greatly with the fresh colors although you had only artificial lighting during the night. All pictures are showing beautiful summer days and I love it how you have painted the sky! Get well soon!

    1. Thank you very much Stefanie. I do have two lamps with "daylight" bulbs in them which helps. Not as good as real daylight, they tend to dry the paper too quickly as well.

  2. Nice watercolors Kev. Your skies are great and I like the way you create distance in your paintings.
Love the sunlight in the top painting.
    Hope you are feeling better.

    1. Many thanks Pat, glad you like them. As I've mentioned previously, I've tended to avoid big skies generally speaking, but I enjoyed doing these. A useful way of passing the night LOL!

  3. Sorry you haven't been feeling well. Glad to see you made such good use of a sleepless night. This series is great! I especially like the top one...nice rich color and nice sense of depth. Isn't it great that when you get into an artistic groove you lose your sense of time.

    1. I quite agree. Just for a while it's possible to forget everything else and the time flies by. Don't know about you but this usually happens when I least expect it. Thanks Joan.
