Our Lottie.

Monday the 6th broke with tradition in that we had brilliant sunshine. In fact, it was so hot I got burned. We are way behind with our allotment because of all the previous bad weather, so, off we went to get things done. Tradition was broken a second time in that I took time out to do this sketch while my wife did all the planting. It was a novel if slightly guilty experience to sit and draw while Helen established runner beans and peas etc and is not, I hasten to add, how I would normally spend time there. She likes this picture but I'm not sure how many more times I will get away with such a leisurely morning!! Waterproof and water-soluble ink and watercolour on Daler 90lb NOT.

  1. Such a kind wife you have. :) Lucky you. No one can work ALLWAYS. Everyone needs to have interrests as well. Otherwise we don´t feel good. I guess she understands that.
I think this painting is lovely. BUT: I would like to see it in a bigger size ;) I tried to click it to enlarge, but it didn´t work. :(

  2. Ha ha. Yes she is very kind.... And understanding, she needs to be because she is married to me!! I know what you mean about the picture not enlarging, I don't understand why this is and don't know what I can do about it. Any advice would be welcome. I'm glad you like it, it was so good to put some new work on here as my job is still so hectic at the moment. And now the weather is terrible again so no more planting for now!!

  4. Oh I know I'm a lucky man!! I would just like to point out that I've done some hard work since, even though the weather is still horrible here and now, more rain is forcast!! I enjoyed drawing from life but it's on hold again now. Glad you like the sketch. I want to do more studies of the site when (if) the weather improves!!

  5. The other day when I did some work in my small garden, I remembered this lovely picture of your lotti and I thought it must be so nice to have a lotti. Did you spend some time there during summer? By the way, not only your painting but also your writing is noteworthy. I can see everything you describe so clearly in front of me. From your profile I found out that you are caring for people with learning disabilities. I assume you are a very good teacher as your comments on my painting problems have been extremely helpful. Many thanks again!

    1. Oh you're more than welcome Stephanie but it's you that did the work!!! Unfortunately I am still very unwell and our lotti has been neglected somewhat. We will probably give it up and plant in our garden next year, it will be easier to manage and a lot less expensive!! Thank you for what you say about my writing, it's true, I love our wonderful language. Sadly, it is used less well and abused rather more than in times past. Right from the very start of this blog I determined that the writing and the pictures should be submitted with equal care, sharing importance with one, hopefully, complimenting the other. I'm very pleased that you enjoy it!!

  6. I feel so sorry for you and your unwell situation. There is always something appearing in life we have to manage somehow isn't it? I keep my fingers crossed that you will manage your situation somehow and find an individual solution how you can integrate it. I'm looking forward to your next painting or sketch and text!

    1. Thanks Stefanie. It's very frustrating as it is stopping me doing so much. These things are sent to try us!!
